Oh heck..why not..I can always run and hide behind one of my American buddies. The UK have only won 6 times ....and it's the same trooper. No...I can't utter his name...he'll be targeted by snipers...but then again won't that add to the fun? It's miffy42. Only spiffy miffy has managed to wriggle between their legs. Oh dear UK & Co.....Lizzie Windsor will never live this down....she'll know just how poor George Rex felt unless you can spring back in time.

Hmmm.....closer..much closer...there's just room for me to tickle a kipper bone between the two armies.

Come on UK & Co...scurry after them.....don't let them get away...they haven't got much of a lead and their army is half the size and anyway...the two top players with least answers incorrect are still Helmar and Doc both of the woad wearers! And Doc and his cohorts look set to keep possesion of the throne ..

UK & Co pride is restored! Tsk my american buddies... that guillotine doesn't frighten the UK...you'll have to limbo dance quick if you're going to claw back all the bonus goodies they are stashing in their arsenal.
As we all know pengy has a poor retentive memory and an even shorter concentration span...but do you know I really can't remember when the USA won the Mogul. I know I've often called it their somebodyorothers Heel ..the name escapes me though I know for a fact it wasn't Hector's Heel.

Hee...heee..the UK are at it again. Stealing the lead...BUT...
I'm feeling a chill shiver run down my spine ...and it's not just the whiff of fish because Piranha is set to close in for the KO3 kill.
I have a premonition. Warning shave issued from my beak before. I'm sorry..I believe that came out a typo....Take 2: Warnings have issued from my beak..warnings...that's what I said first time. Are the UK becoming complacent I ask myself? Do they realise the Americans are surviving longer? Are destined to stash more points? Could this swing it for the red army..and alter the whole outcome of the war!
Right now...precisely on this nano-second of time...the HQ stats record
so far.......Cor, that's a measly .5 of a percent. A half.
Last time it was so close at this stage......it ended in a draw.

Right...I've read your suggestions (and thanks for your input here my friends)....I've had a rethink and reorganise...and think this is the way to go forward.

The War Will Go On!
I love being referee and it's such fun and you're all such fab peeps. All four quizzes will remain.
This pengy can't conceive of life rolling out of his bombpod every morning and having no quizzes!
I'm afraid just now I can't do the blog regularly...BUT...
I will announce the winner at months end..as normal
I will have crowning champs day..as normal
On the 11th and 21st of each month there will a blog leaking stats from HQ as to who is in the lead. Pengy doesn't want to lose this bit...I love warmongering!
If and when I can..I will do the odd blog too! I will let you know of this so you don't have to keep peeking to see if there is one.

In addition ...if anyone would like to help out by penning a blog or two, if and when they would like, if they whizz me an e-mail at Pengy's Fishy HQ providing me with their e-mail address I can send them an invite to become an author on the blog. There is no need for an alias. ... your player name is fine.

This pengy agrees and thinks the main thing is to keep the quizzes going....

Hello my human friends ... brave patriotic troopers.
I'm afraid this isn't my usual blog....and please accept my apologies for not putting flipper to keyboard too regularly of late.
Sadly... I don't have as much time as I used to....and unfortunately the gripping, referee commentary has suffered. I hope this hasn't detracted from your enjoyment of warring with each other. I have, and still do find it trememdous fun.
However, with this in mind....I feel that it is time perhaps for everyone to lay down their arms.

Pengy is calling an armistice....which will come into effect at the end of this months play when I will declare a ceasefire.
August will be the final month of play across all four battlefields.
and then all the quizzes will be closed down.

Since this war began in June 2007
505 great sporting troopers have enlisted to play the Challenge.
203 nimble footed troopers have wriggled under the Mogul guillotine.
86 daring Titans have fought.
98 of the very bravest Survivors have try to avoid capture in the Danger Zone and avoid Piranha's snapping jaws.

I have chatted and made friends with Americans, English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Canadians, New Zealanders and Australians..some even in the cunning disguises of cats and aliens and dogs (don't laugh..animals are clever too you know..look at Mr Ed) though it's true it would ordinarily create a raised eyebrow from any vigilant recruitment officer.
Then again..not every quiz has a pengy referee in a tuxedo with a grenade belt crammed with kippers.
I applaud you all for your high standard of play....anyone who dares play here has shown a real love of quiz playing (let's face it it's flipping hard to win and you don't report everyday for the good of your ego!)

All of you have a tremendous sense of comraderie which has kept it such fun for everyone. I think you're all fantastic...admire you (you're far cleverer than me) ..and thank you.
Right..less of the sentimental stuff...this doesn't mean you can slink off the battlefields and go AWOL...

So on this last month....there's national honour to gain...or lose...either army could be remembered through the ages as the Conquerors.

Drat! For days I've been leaning in and patting miffy42'2 head...yes, he was ignobly in the Pit...Hard to believe but true. Well he isn't now. He escaped whilst I was distracted dubiously eyeing the nibbles on the mogul smorgasbord. It gets worse...shadowzep USA escaped too.

Take heart then you poor unfortunates in the muddy stuff. New potential victims are straying close to the edge and one good days play..or a quick nudge from moi...and they could take your place. Isn't that a heartening thought!

Sorry shadowzep USA ... twosleepy USA ... briarwoodrose UK and Johnny USA but you are dicing with Fate.

Right now at this flipper biting stage heading towards Fridays KO2 we have 13 USA and 15 UK heroic survivors left ...hmmm...nicely even..well almost...till I say that out of the 7 wannabee escapees in the Pit...6 are UK & Co. That was not a typo. 6. Chew over that bit of info UK....it could bring a future Day of Reckoning.

UK & Co you are in big trouble! He's an Immortal! Yikes...I'm notoriously nosey so I posted this and his secret is out.

There is other infiltrators who wriggled under the wire over the weekend...my spine tingled as my beady eyes followed them....Ashmancometh and klahrace....hmm...wasn't that klahrace in the Silence of The Lambs? Anyway...not to be sidetracked from my scintillating chat....that's 3 new troopers have enlisted for the USA. What's more..I reckon 3 trained assassins. They're very good you know. Welcome to the war my friends.

Add to that..mos623 nabbed 3 wins in a row. Does this mean what I think it could. Portentous stuff.

Beset with curiousity and not a little battle fever I felt it my duty to raid HQ for the current stats.

It's official...the smaller army is winning! Oh this is tremendous news if you are an american and not so good if you are a woad wearer. Not good at all actually...the red devils are stretching out ahead....quite convincingly but in perverse pengy fashion I refuse to leak out by how much.

4/1 for the UK & Co...whey hey! Almost a total victory! But look..he's already there shinning up the flagpole..the...the cheeky devil...but you have to admire him. Sadly, my american friends are fiercely outnumbered here...but are they been fiercely beaten?

In a word? Yes! Gone are the days when the UK Titans were hammered flat on the muddy battlefield....beaten and bruised, elongated into the two dimensoinal to one day be discovered by a fossil hunter . Now it's their american cousins turn... Poor buddies...so far you are losing this one...you are outnumbered, this is true....and outclassed? Dare I suggest this UK army is something special. Terrifically tigerish and what's more they are pummelling you flatter than you are pounding them on the Challenge. This gobbleygook requires sympathetic clarification.

In brief: the USA is trailing. All the advantage they had gained on the Challenge has been wiped out here! Good work UK.

BUT...

With these new troopers arriving this battle looks set for some fun.

It goes against all my instincts as an impartial referee but...oh well, here goes. My fave players have to be Clamking...Ashmancometh (now there's a name brimming with bravado) and last but not least klahrace. All have already bagged goodies to stash in the american arsenal...just when I feared my buddies were slinking off..going AWOL...some daredevils pile in.

Quid pro quo...if you are reading this my fab new little daredevils....take no notice if you are warned that a mention by me often evokes the Pengy Kiss of Death. It's all rumours.

So who's arsenal's bulging with most grenades?

Come on USA ... go get them...and go fast!..Velcro their legs together...they're sprinting off again and the moguls had been known to be the deciding factor in the war.

Congratulations jules....won the mogul and then hotfooted it over to the Survivor with flames flickering from her feet.

Piranha visited last Friday...which was ages ago I know...but I was busy remedying FT's subversive attack.

An honorary kipper is awarded to both jacky UK and milamtexan USA for escaping those foetid jaws past KO1 this time around. Can I say in admiration to my fave players..yes, I mean you....It takes courage after a mauling to enlist and take on the fishy terror again. Many fall by the wayside, mental and emotional wrecks.

But in the larger scheme of things how are both armies doing in the war? Is one leading the way? You bet there is.

It's another american scalp superglued to the totem for the UK & Co army.

But who's in the Pit? Safe until after play on Friday ...but what's this? No one managed to escape overnight....tut tut....this isn't like my courageous never-ever-surrender feisty friends.

There's going to be a concerted rush for freedom right?

Take care jacky UK ... Helmar UK and skipperdeedoo UK.. You are slithering awful close in the sticky muddy stuff. It'll only take one of them desperate captives to grab hold of your ankle...sneaky I know..but all's fair in love and war.

Hmm..and this is worth remarking upon. Most of the leading top 10 and well out of danger are Americans

Time for me to pan with my telescope....and drat..mos623 is shinning up the Challenge mast...again...and wow look at MarchHare007 bounding along on the Mogul. And that's a pretty snappy time too for a floppy eared critter I must say...all that furry wind resistance can't help much. Hey this is impressive...the furry bundle is leading in the Titan too! I'm on the big bunnies side!

And on the Survivor battlefield it's.....m....mmmm....oh heck..it's mos623..the devilish thing. Is this going to be a mos month?

But where is she? I see no jules enlisted for the new skirmish....and this can only mean one thing....yes, mos623 is going to be a toughie for the UK team to control.
Talk of the Devil..I just peeped over the parapet and a blast of air as hot as a sirocco has just whizzed past singeing me. It was He. I however, am cheering for pollygw UK who's nabbed the lead...is fending off american attack.

Titanasaurus Rex....Come on up j2cp2 and wriggle into your comfy throne. It was close though...right up until the end I was snuffling and snorting heavily into my brown paper bag. Would it be Stu? Would it be you!
But you valiantly fended him off and grabbed the crown with both hands...by 4 points. Wow..I do believe that is the closest win ever! Thanks for a great scrap you two..it did wonders for my nerves.
And now? Both of you attained the hotly coveted status of Invincible on the challenge..so alas, can not join in this months fray...or, for everyone else...whoopee...pile in ...this one is going to be up for grabs. Or maybe not...I've spied poolospher...I've seen you pool...hungry for a third win hey?

UK & Co fielded the larger army of 17 Titans, won 2752 points = 48.9% , a smaller slice. (last month 44.2%)
