Last day of the tournament today folks......don't know about you but I'm getting fidgety and want to tot up the scores...but shucks... can't...have to wait until you've all finnished playing for the day. Have some pity....It's darn stressful been a spectator you know.

Yesterday I mentioned the new Daily Dervish award. Now this one is going to go right down to the line.....if mos623 can win today that'll be 6 wins each this month for him and miffy42.

Now this will test allegiances, team loyalty, bonds of undying friendship...the chase for personal glory. You can accuse me of stirring it. Yep...you're right. I don't deny it.....I'm perverse.

The thing is...if anyone beats mos623 for first place today...oh dear....they could be depriving him of the Daily Dervish award. Cor...just think...swindled on the last days play.

My lips are sealed. Americans won't like that you know...not one placing....there will be court martials, ructions at headquarters.....or they could just come back meaner and more determined to thrash the enemy.

No one volunteered for the UK side. Zilch.

Not to worry. Over a hundred of you are entering the gladitorial arena each day now. Had one or two deserters...won't name and shame them....well I might if I wake up in a cantankerous mood one day.

By the way...end of the month's coming. That's a Day of Judgement on the team tourney due...I can't wait to see whose won this one after such a titanic effort from both sides...but I'm sitting here thinking on the Individual Awards I'm gonna extend the Invincibles in our unique Hall of Flame from 3 to 10.

You're all so flaming good anyone who can scrabble to the top deserves a mention. It's Ad Infinitum..remember...so here's a cheery thought...long after you've gone...ashes to ashes and dust to dust and all that...you'll have virtual fame floating around in the world wide ether.

5. Triviaballer USA. Ah..shame...heading for 3 in a row until I gave you the kiss of death...a virtual kiss of death..not a real one you understand.

So...after starting off so well yesterday Triviaballer still managed to come in in the top 5. Next time I'll keep my beak shut. Still Fastest Finger though and that will take a heck of awhile before someone robs you of that...oops...I'll be quiet....

Two Americans swam the atlantic to the USA base camp....Howdy to docturn and DBergKamp10...hmn....sounds intimidating. And Hello to David It....who enlisted for the UK team. Good time to join now....you get can your inititation by fire over before the next tournament starts.

Talking tournament talk and team stuff there's only 2 days play left after today.

There's been a bit of shuftying around in the points table.

mos623 has vanished over the horizon...can only see the clouds of smoke from his heels...don't know whether miffy42 will manage to catch him now.

Right behind....peachy 1 ......a true hunting hound...is bounding in for the kill and close on the scent are WorldB and midgetmark who are scrapping away in their own personal tug-of-war for 4th and 5th place. Is'nt it gratifying to see such dedication by such talented players.

But that's not the only place the fighting is ferocious. All across the board there's carnage and mayhem and battered players falling by the wayside. No...it's not because of a Full Moon....in a few days time it's Judgement Day!

And I've been snooping around...spotting whose fought hardest and come out on top. These are the real champs for this week...the stars who've given everything to their game...who've snatched places and more points for their team at this crucial coutdown.

To me...these guys/gal are true diehards. Congratulations on some fantastic playing over the last few days.

And the tournament was heaving yesterday...108 of you played. Gee thanks.

That included a couple of newcomers....reckon there'd be more except the debris and flotsam of knackered casualties is creating a blockade ...bodies everywhere.

So I'll say Howdy to 2 new UK troops. Hello there bettyjackson ....glad you were brave enough to join up....and Hello to benniebenbenny...nope...that's not me stuttering..that's a new Commonwealth ally come to help his cousins out. Commonwealth is starting to come in now...thanks guys.

Any Americans joined up? In a word. No. Why? Dunno but the UK don't mind it gives them time to catch up and balance out the numbers.

Now I'd like to draw attention to two darn good players....coincidentally both from the Commonwealth. They're playing real fine...exceptional even give the standard of stiff competition here.

Howie72 is turning into a real competitor...a regular high scorer......He's crept upto 6th place in the leaderboard.....

And wakazawaka who only joined last week and played only 5 days has already rocketed upto 56th spot. I feel a premonition coming....wait until the September tournament starts and these two have a full run. I reckon mos623 and Triviaballer had better watch out....

Talking of premonitions....fate...karma....etc...I was going to say next with excited bated breath....Triviaballer is on course for achieving 3 Wins In A Row today.

Er...Now I speculated about this in the itty bitty box on the game....oh dear...I gave him the Kiss of Death.

Now another UK cadet signed up and hightailed it before diving in. Wonder why? I guess it can be a bit intimidating. Nerves of steel help here.

It's true it's become something of a gladitorial arena...OBC felt reasonably intelligent till she started playing this tournament. Now she feels thick and slow....It's true too that it's best if you can get in the top 50 for the days play. Points is better. The top 20 get real worthwhile points....but the top 10...oh, that's how to rip roar up the table.

Triviaballer riproared yesterday and he's doing it again today! Now I don't whether he'll hang on to first...but he has broken the Fastest Finger record...swiped it off midgetmark. Hey...are the yanks stealing the show? Hovenaut's 3 in a row wins has stood unchallenged since July. Soon this blog will be awash with red...no...not blood....not mine at least.

So how is it looking....now the countdown to the end of the months end is looming closer?

Who could get to celebrate? Who might hang their heads on shame?

Gee...I wish both sides could win.

It's still the USA in the lead......I know it's unbelievable with all those UK wins but one winner does not a victorious team make!

Total points up for grabs so far.....11026.

The Americans still have 5755 of them firmly in their grasp.

The UK team have only managed to wrestle ownership of 5271.

Or....52.2% of the pie for the USA. ......and a smaller 47.8% of the goodies for the UK.

So what does this mean? It means...oh dear...UK you could be staring defeat in the face unless you can pull something spectacular out of the bag! A squad of assassins perhaps? A new secret covert weapon? A national power cut across the Atlantic?

But it ain't over till it's over....there's still time to go and there's still the top 3 players to be decided who get to enter the Revered Hall of Flame. Yeh, I know it's ususally 5. Well here it's 3....Cos I say so.

3. mos623 USA. Always getting shoved out. Unfair I say! But get this! Is Leader of the Tournament.

4. MaggieG UK. Ranked 6th last month....and holding her own against all these newcomers.

5. WorldB USA. Here again..get used to it. Now the American number 2 player.

A few of these names are starting to look familiar ain't they? The big guns....But remember those lava lamp thingies? Can you still get them? It's like that here. Players rise to the top...then slowly float back down...rudely shunted aside by the mob behind.

And was anyone willing (and brave) enough to enlist yesterday? Have they been warned what they're letting themselves in for? Humiliation. More humiliation....etc...etc.. Don't be put off...it's part of the initiation process..

So how are things going in the main?

Well...the UK lost pole postion at top of the board. Cor...they've reined supreme up there for ages. We have a new tournament leader...and I reckon if he could mos623 would snatch down that Union Jack and hoist his own Stars and Stripes. He's one mean player folks. If any one single player is talented enough to dominate this battlefield...it's mos623. It takes more than luck to manage top positions all the time.

Now...I've been a bit preoccupied and distracted with other things for the last few days.

But if you remember I mentioned your Profiles. I like to read them...of those of you that have done them that is. And I got caught snooping! BrerSchultzy caught me peeking in. Know what? I can live with the shame...it can get lonely here on my ice floe. I like to know about you. You seem such an interesting, great bunch! Aw..go on...fill em in for me.

Well Done ainenei...You've Kept The Union Jack Flying!

The harder questions yesterday saw a few of the usual top players slide into obscurity...but not ainenei. Congratulations on a convincing first win! I've filched a new flag too. Much easier on the eyes...did the other one make you feel kinda seasick too?

So who else shone...you brainy people you.

1. ainenei UK. First time up there with the Gods on Olympus. Fine work!

2. Quiz Beagle UK. Another Brit showing his/her competitive spirit and acumen. Yes..brag..I would.

3. BB1 USA. Did'nt bat an eyelid at the mental punishment. And they were hard!

4. magijoh1 #1 UK. A true all-rounder. One of the few early players to take on the newcomers.

5. bottle rocket USA. Has always gotten 10/10 you know. Deserves to be up here!

The play yesterday was splendid....such a high standard of competition! The average score per player on this tournament way outstrips the other quizzes in the Top 100 Tournaments.

In short...you have to be tough to even be in it.

Not many new players of late. I might mention that not one Australian has jumped heedlessly into the carnage. I learnt a new word the other day....a toey...no, not a joey, a baby kangaroo.

The Aussies must be toey (translation: nervous).

But I'll welcome a brave stalwart who came to join the USA team.

Hello to krajack99. You are definitely not toey about jumping in.

Now....a few things next.

1) I'm having my own scrap with flags at the moment incase you did'nt know. Please keep posting in the comment box on the game if you can't see them. Thanks to all of you who've helped me on this.

2) We're just past the middle of the current tournament...so I had a look to see who is winning now and who is threatening to hammer the other into submission. There could be a brutal finale!

Hi guys/gals...settle in quick as you can and gaurd your post!

Questions were a a little harder yesterday....can't say it seemed to slow anyone down too much.

Anarchy reined as usual. There was more than a few braindead competitors. Today..they're even harder...so that'll be a few more casualties. Soon sorts out the sprinters from the marathon runners I reckon. Couldn't help noticing that Stuhern....strnog1....Fitz....elskede and ryaman put in cracking good performances.

Need to aswell...snatch and grab those points because the top of the table is turning into a bloodbath. Will mos623 be able to catch miffy42 by months end? Doubt it...100 points is a heck of a lot to claw back. But with Marsalinator ...WorldB and Mink right behind...it's going to get scrappy.

For all that the toughest place is for those who only joined in the last few days....they have their own little war going on with players at the lower end of the table...where advancement is exhilirating but hardwon and to win you have to be tough.

Now....a word about flags. Or lack of them. You can look but you won't find them! Yep...I know.

I'm going to get it sorted. Promise.
